Battle of Winwidfield
1368 years ago on this day, 15th November AD654, the Battle of Winwidfield {in recent years named as Winwaed} was fought on the banks of a river at an unknown location, thought to be in the north of England and possibly on a tributary of The Humber.
King Penda of Mercia who had been hugely successful and dominant, fought King Oswiu of Bernicia {North-East England}.Prrbook

Whilst only a few details of the battle are known, it was certainly an important and very decisive conflict between the early, northern and southern divisions of the Anglo-Saxon settlements. The battle resulted in the death of Penda, the demise of Anglo-Saxon paganism and the conversion of Mercia to Christianity.
The Peterborough manuscript of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle reports that "Oswy killed Penda at Winwidfield and 30 royal children with him".....
